Voice Recognition SoftwareVoice recognition software is a boon to writers. Because we think so quickly we often struggle to type as quickly as we're thinking - at least, I know I do. With voice recognition software you can write three times faster than with typing. The good news is that voice recognition software has come on in leaps and bounds over the past while, so that now it's an extremely viable option for writers. One of the best-known and best thought of of these is Dragon Naturally Speaking Software. They have two products which are of interest to writers: Both of these allow you to dictate your story and the computer will automatically type it for you, no matter what your accent. As time passes, the software will recognise your voice more and accuracy will increase even further. As a bonus, you can also use it to get your computer to do commands such as 'Open Email'. The difference between the two products is that the Home version of Dragon Naturally Speaking can just be used at home. The premium version is ideal for writers on the go as it works with a wireless headset (not included) for great dictation accuracy without the wires. Or bring along your digital voice recorder (also not included) when you head out for the day; Dragon Premium can transcribe the audio files of your voice when you return to your PC. To me that Premium mobility option is absolutely ideal. How many writers have to fit their writing into their daily life - and imagine how wonderful it would be to create your masterpiece while you're waiting for the kids to finish soccer practice or dance or whatever they're doing!
