Novel Writing Made Easy
How to plan a novel so it practically writes itself
Novel Writing Made Easy is a step-by-step approach to writing your novel, and
Andrea was kind enough to let me have a copy to review.
I've finished working through it now, and I can honestly say I am very, very,
impressed.
The book comes with a workbook so that you can put the system into practice. This is not just a
book you read, think, Very interesting, and carry on. This is a book you do. And once
you've done it you will have a comprehensive and substantial scene-by-scene outline for your novel. Once that's
done all you need to do it is to write it - but you know exactly what you're going to write, and so the process
will be easy as per the promise Andrea makes in the book's title: How to plan a novel so it practically writes
itself. (Well, relatively easy! It still has to be done, of course.)
That's a big promise, but in my considered opinion she more than delivers on it.
One of the things which really struck me was just how comprehensive Novel Writing Made
Easy is. It gives innovative and very creative suggestions for creating plots, characters, settings.
The book gives good suggestions about doing research (and how your research can add to your story
ideas), and gives a good selection of resource websites to help. These resources are, of course, very USA-centric,
and so no use for a European like me, but many of the resources are still very useful.
Not only does Novel Writing Made Easy help you with your story creation, but it
also has good information on how to use language in your story - i.e. writing-craft as well as story-craft. It also
helps that Andrea's other book How To Become A Writer Extraordinaire is offered as a bonus, and
that also helps you in your writing-craft.
In summary, these two books are a comprehensive course on writing and story, and I totally
recommend it. Best news of all? It only costs $47.00.
